    Staff Retirees Devote More Than 250 Years Helping Make Hope

    Representing departments across the college, the 12 staff members retiring this year have devoted a combined 250 years-plus to doing the essential work of keeping Hope running — the computers and vehicles, the offices and programs — and the campus a welcoming, safe, clean and even homelike place for students, faculty, staff and visitors.

    2024 Celebration Of Undergraduate Research And Creative Activity Photo Gallery

    Original research by Hope students on topics ranging from the health benefits of exposure to natural light, to the science of coffee roasting and brewing, to personal space was highlighted during the college’s annual A. Paul and Carol C. Schaap Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity on Friday, April 12 at the Richard and Helen DeVos Fieldhouse.

    èƵ to Hold Baccalaureate and Commencement on May 5

    Baccalaureate and Commencement for èƵ’s Class of 2024 are scheduled for Sunday, May 5. Commencement will take place at 3 p.m. at Ray and Sue Smith Stadium, and Baccalaureate at 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. in Dimnent Memorial Chapel.

    Anchors of Hope: Honoring Hope’s Eight Newest Faculty Retirees

    The words penned by the Rev. Albertus C. Van Raalte when establishing the Pioneer School from which Hope grew are among the college’s most foundational: education as an “anchor of hope” for the future. Through all the decades since, that promise has been shepherded by generations of faculty mentors who have not only been at Hope, but in a real sense have been and are Hope. Across campus — in the classroom, in the laboratory, on the stage, on the playing field and in countless ways between and beyond — for a combined 205 years, the eight faculty retirees honored here have embodied and helped realize the vision of transforming tomorrow by shaping young lives today.

    èƵ Choirs to Present “Songs for Peace” Concert on April 20

    The èƵ Chapel Choir, College Chorus and SPERA vocal ensembles will perform both separately and together during their final concert of the school year, presenting a program with the theme “Songs for Peace” on Saturday, April 20, at 3 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts.

    Hope Presenting Staged Reading of “Young Americans” on April 16

    In celebration of Asian, Asian-American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander Month, the èƵ Many Voices Project will present a staged reading of “Young Americans” by Lauren Yee on Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. in Schaap Auditorium of the Jim and Martie Bultman Student Center.

    èƵ TRIO Upward Bound Celebrating 55 Years of Transforming Lives

    èƵ TRIO Upward Bound is the longest-running Upward Bound program at a private college in the country. Its 55th Anniversary Gala: Living Legacies on April 12, however, will not be about longevity but instead will focus on the thousands of lives that have been transformed.

    The Saint Benedict Institute will host Dr. Jack Mulder of the èƵ philosophy faculty for a talk titled “Was Jesus an Only Child? A Biblical and Philosophical Exploration” on Wednesday, April 17, at 7 p.m. at èƵ in Winants Auditorium of Graves Hall.

    A total of 19 èƵ students will be presenting their collaborative faculty-student research during this year’s National Conference on Undergraduate Research (NCUR), being held on Monday-Wednesday, April 8-10, in Long Beach, California.
